Last weekend our AmeriCorps Service Coordinator, Eric Park, traveled to Durham, NC to participate in the Healthy Housing Summit led by the National Service Program staff at Rebuilding Together and the local RT of the Triangle. 25 other AmeriCorps members from Rebuilding Together affiliates across the country spent a full day of training and two days implementing safe and healthy home repairs for homeowners in need in rural Pittsboro.
Armand Magnelli and Jayne Windham of Livable Housing, Inc. and Housing Compliance Solutions LLC, facilitated the training sessions that involved an overview of building science, home inspection best practices, and several hands on demonstrations that highlighted the 7 safe and healthy housing principles. Armand and Jayne did a wonderful job of making this content engaging and practical for the AmeriCorps members in attendance.
The team Eric served with removed old carpet throughout the home and refinished the hardwood floors, installed three new windows, insulated the attic and crawlspace, and rehung gutters and extended downspouts to improve the flow of water away from the foundation of the home. Overall, it was a tremendous service experience, and we would like to thank the NSP Team, Armand, Jayne, Dan and Sophie of RT of the Triangle, and the national sponsors of this event. What a blast!
