Rebuilding Together Baltimore has been busy in Wilson Park this Fall. With the hard work of our community partners and volunteers, we’ve been able to provide critical health-and-safety home repairs to five homeowners on volunteer-based project days during September and October. Our staff have also continued to partner with those homeowners who hosted teams of volunteers in the past, ensuring that the hard work of the volunteers is followed up on and maintained.
This fall, volunteers have participated in repairs that include patching and covering holes in walls, repairing gutters, tearing out a rotten porch and rebuilding it, replacing faulty plumbing, installing light fixtures, and much more. All our repairs ultimately contribute to improving the health and safety of the property, helping senior homeowners age in place and maintaining the value of their homes.
Our volunteers have also helped make possible several community impact projects in some of the green spaces of the Wilson Park neighborhood. Volunteers from Loyola University, many representing the Loyola Women’s Basketball team, weeded, swept, planted, painted and collected trash at the Willow Avenue Park and two vacant lots in the area. Another team constructed a new border around the small garden at the intersection of York and Coldspring Roads, protecting the new flowers and grasses they planted. Finally, a team of Loyola volunteers worked with our partners at Jubilee Arts to create a beautiful new mosaic sign for the Willow Avenue Park, replacing one which was damaged in the past year.
Many thanks to all our corporate partners at Fidelity Guaranty & Life, BGE, RCM&D, Stratus Solutions, Whiteford Taylor & Preston and Loyola University for helping us make the varied projects of the past two months successful. Thanks to your support, we were able to provide critical home repairs to homeowners in need and complete impactful work in public community spaces.
The hard work of all our volunteers and the support of community members this Fall has made homes safer and healthier for residents, and helped maintain the good condition of public spaces for the neighborhood.
Check out some photos of our volunteers and the great work they did!
